“For everyone, no matter what their age or level of expertise, the important issue in hatha yoga is not flexibility and the ability to do difficult postures, but awareness – awareness of body and breath. From this awareness comes control, and from control comes grace and beauty. Even postures approximated by beginning students can carry the germ of poise and elegance.”

Welcome to Barefoot Yoga and Massage

Since 2005 - Celebrating our 13th year Anniversary of Yoga!

Our Mission

To provide a friendly, peaceful, and compassionate environment for the promotion and cultivation of contentment, relaxation, and the integration of body, mind, and spirit through the practice of yoga and bodywork.

The Studio

Barefoot Yoga and Massage serves the communities of Glen Mills, West Chester, Chadds Ford, Media, Aston and other municipalities in Delaware County and Chester County as well as Wilmington, Delaware.

Our Studio is located in the sleepy town of Thornton, Thornbury Township, approximately three miles from the intersection of Routes 1 and 202, at Painter's Crossing.

The Studio is located at the intersection of Glen Mills and Thornton Roads, across the street from the Thornton Post Office. Ample free parking is available in the parking lot next to the Post Office. The building was once a blacksmith's shop, as evidenced by foot-thick stone walls and exposed stone on some interior walls.

Fully modernized, the Studio blends the charm of the building's historic character with modern amenities. Skylights fill the studio with sunshine (or moonlight), and dimmable lighting can be adjusted for massage or yoga. The flooring is made from bamboo, a renewable resource. Taking inspiration from the exposed stone, the Studio's interior walls are painted in soft earth tones.

Through yoga and bodywork, the Studio is a place to be yourself and to release the expectations of what you “should” be. In the yoga classes, the emphasis is on progress not perfection. It’s your yoga practice. It’s not about whether you can force your body into advanced postures, but about the conversation that occurs between your mind and your body, and about loving yourself for who you are right now. The massages that are offered at the Studio are designed to relax, restore, and nurture through the art of touch.

We hope you’ll stop in for a class or massage and experience this special place for yourself.
